Cosaan Seereer: History of the Joof Dynasty of Siin and Baol (27 Nov 2021)

Listen again to our live interview with researcher/historian Mamadou Faye, a young Seereer knowledgable and passionate about Seereer history especially the history of Siin. Mamadou Faye is taking social media by storm especially with his consistent video content on YouTube on matters relating to the history of Siin and its royal dynasties. This is the 4th part of a series of interviews with Mamadou Faye relating to the history of Siin.

On today's show, the panel and their guests discusses the Joof Dynasty - one of the oldest noble families from the Senegambia region that had ruled three great kingdoms: Baol, Siin, and  Saluum for centuries - taking over from their ancient lamanic ancestors. This family has produced some of Senegambia's greatest kings as well as some of its most colourful ones.  Another special guest Sering Diouf (aka. Jaraaf Baol) also joins us  to shed some light on the history of this family from a Baol-Baol perspective, whilst Mamadou Faye  gave us the Siin-Siin perspective. Tamsier Joof is the one asking the questions with his colleague Diokel Laba Ngom who joined later.

This programme was scheduled for last year but due to the guest's personal committments the programme had to be deferred.

Open Mic: Gambian politician, lawyer and serial rapist Melville Robertson Roberts

For 2 years (from 2019),  his friends in power - including the political elite, those in law/judiciary, as well as sections of the Gambian media have tried to protect him and bury the case instead of bringing it to trial.  The Gambian authorities are so fearful of bringing him to justice that they declared the case  "untouchable" despite the numerous testimonies and evidence presented by his victims. This is a special tribute to the late Gambian historian and broadcaster Ebou Corr by Sulayman Ndong of Star FM 96.6 (Gambia) and Ebou Njie, President of the Ndef Leng Association in the Gambia.  Ebou Corr sadly passed away on Sunday, 19 July 2020 in the Gambia. Tamsier Joof, the main presenter of that show, and a member of the Ndef Leng Association in the Gambia opened the show with a personal tribute to his late colleague Ebou Corr. Our heartfeld and sincere condolences goes out to his family and the Seereer community of the Gambia, and to all Gambians. He had dedicated nearly 40 years of his life teaching and educating us about Seereer history, and for that we are immensely grateful. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
